Israeli Forces Raid Ramallah, Renew Closure Order on Al Jazeera Office

(MENAFN) Israeli military forces carried out a raid in the West Bank city of Ramallah early Tuesday, including an operation targeting the local office of Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera, according to reports and eyewitness accounts.

Witnesses said troops entered central Ramallah and stormed the broadcaster’s office located in Manara Square. During the operation, forces reportedly issued a renewed closure order for the office and deployed tear gas and stun grenades in the surrounding area, disrupting activity in the square.

Security measures were also tightened at key entrances to Ramallah, with several main roads temporarily blocked, leading to traffic disruptions and limiting movement in the city.

The closure order follows an earlier decision approved in May 2024 by Israeli authorities to shut down Al Jazeera’s operations for an initial 45-day period, a measure that has since been extended multiple times, according to reports.

The broader context of the raid comes amid ongoing Israeli military operations across the occupied West Bank, which have intensified since October 2023. Palestinian sources cited in reports state that the escalation has resulted in widespread casualties, arrests, and injuries over that period.

The latest developments add to ongoing tensions surrounding media operations, military activity, and movement restrictions in the West Bank.
