Israel Announces Extension of Tulkarem Military Operation
Tulkarem Governor Abdullah Kamil confirmed that Israeli forces had opted to press on with their campaign in the two camps through the close of next month.
The operation, which was launched on January 21, 2025, forms part of a broader Israeli military offensive across the northern occupied West Bank — one that originated in Jenin before spreading to the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, both situated within Tulkarem governorate.
Governor Kamil condemned the extension, stating that the decision prolongs the suffering of thousands of families displaced by the ongoing military operation.
He further detailed the mounting toll on civilian life, noting that the systematic demolition of homes and commercial properties, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and extensive bulldozing within the camps had severely aggravated humanitarian and economic conditions for local residents.
Kamil renewed his urgent appeal to international organizations and human rights bodies to step in and bring the operation to an immediate halt.
The broader human cost across the West Bank has been staggering since the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 8, 2023: attacks carried out by Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed 1,168 Palestinians, left approximately 12,660 others wounded, and resulted in the detention of roughly 33,000 individuals.
